Hmm, occured to me that "Known to be dead" is a worthless flaw for you, since you can fleshcraft yourself into a different form at will. I'll have to ask you to choose a different one.

Also, being paranoid about the 'businessmen' out to get him, Steeple will have buried a variety of hidden cache's throughout the region.

Caches would contain gold and silver coins mostly, but also a few pieces of jewelry and the occasional weapon, piece of armor, or fancy children's toy.

Mostly, I'm doing this so that Steeple still has a plausible reason for high Resources once we get to the modern age, being able to pose as a treasure hunter to recover rare coins and artifacts from ancient times. ;D

Go ahead and edit that into your resources expanded background anytime you'd like then.

So a Wits Specialty might be like Lightning Reflexes? Or Hard to Surprise?

If so, I'll take Hard to Surprise.

You already chose yours though XD

I think you might use it for certain dodge or stealth rolls in place of Dexterity, but i'm not sure which.

I mean, other than for specific rolls needed for disicplines, Wits is sketchy in terms of making it known when you're supposed to roll it.

I've always considered that to be a Perception or Manipulation/subterfuge roll rather than a Wits roll (I mean, a liar knows lies right?). There's no actual defined way to roll for lie detecting (if there is it is a very well-kept secret, and I would treasure knowledge of it highly).

Yeah, that's the modern version, Dark ages skills are different (and have the same effect in the end, since it allows you to lump in dialects, while modern linguistics doesn't).

It's not unimportant!  I need that information to know who my character is!

Or are you saying none of that background shit actually matters once the game starts, so just write down whatever? XD

I kind of need to know what relationship I have with my sire; If I've been working for him for seven years, I can't just start playing not knowing if we're friendly or hostile, or indifferent or what.

I'm calling it Byzantium in my backstory, don't worry.  I just thought it was interesting that they didn't actually call themselves that.

I mean, think about like, if you found out that a thousand years from now, where you live is known as "North American," and they think of Canada and the Caribbean as all being part of the American Empire.

Your relationship with your sire is entirely up to you. He'll be friendly (and strict) if you are, he'll be brutal (and strict) if you're disobedient/damage his reputation, he'd kill you if you directly went against him. So, like any vampire.

Right now, depending on how you two are, he could see you as either his favourite servants, useful tools, unpleasant necessities or (later on you'll get the opportunity to get in much better with him) his own two sons.

Linguistics

It is assumed that you can speak your natural language, but you must purchase any other languages you wish your character to speak. For each level of Linguistics, your character may fluently speak another language. However, Linguistics also gives a character an understanding of the structure of language, which is in turn the basis of thought. With this Ability, you can identify accents. You also have a chance of figuring out phrases from languages related to the languages you know. For instance, you might be able to decipher some vulgar French (a Roman language) if you know Latin.

Note: you do not need to purchase this to speak Latin if you have Academics.

Specialties Include: Curse Words, Diplomatic, Political, Technical.

Possessed By: Diplomats, Interpreters, Scholars, Travelers.

Dots   Description
1   One additional language.
2   Two additional languages.
3   Three additional languages.
4   Four additional languages.
5   Five additional languages.
6   Eight additional languages.

Resources / Re: Languages
« on: January 12, 2015, 04:34:42 pm »
Wait, could I get 4 languages with a 3 in linguistics, or 3?

You get 1 default, starting language + 1 for each point of linguistics.

You don't need a point of linguistics to be able to speak.

4323
Resources / Re: Languages
« on: January 12, 2015, 04:33:56 pm »
What is the "default" language?  Romanian?
So, Slavonic can understand Romanian at diff 8,
Romanian is at diff 8 to understand Vlach, right?

So can Slavonic understand Vlach?  Does Lucien speak Vlach, since he's tzimisce?

Varying based on which region you come from. Romanian is the one specifically spoken in Eastern Hungary.

Vlach IS romanian, just an archaic dialect. Lucien's default isn't Vlach, it's whatever language he was born speaking (which may or may not be Vlach). Difficult to understand Vlach if you speak Romanian is 7, not 8. Yeah, should work for Slavonic as well.

Unimportant stuff that Seth is reading about instead of finishing his character sheet.

Ftfy ;)

History doesn't really matter when you bring vampires into the mix and the only important historical events that don't involve fictional areas, locations and treaties. are a crusade that involves fictional characters, events and, yes, areas.

Also, dammit Seth, I don't care what the names for anything were back then, i'm still calling it whatever it's called.

Okay, looks good, you didn't have to bother with the item stats (I list those). The penalty for the armor isn't because it doesn't fit well (if it doesn't fit well you can't use it period), the penalty is because of the weight.

D, you write terrible, terrible backstories, without exception XD

It's okay though, your playing is usually better than your backstories.

You should fix the little mistake where it says that "Lucien knew he had found his childer".

Also, funny that you used the name Dragomir... there is a very, uh, "Interesting" character in the story called Dragomir.

Quote
Armor

Once your players know that brigands on the road might use firearms, their natural reaction might be to buy some armor. Roleplaying games tend to have extremely liberal attitudes regarding its use. In many fantasy roleplaying games, for instance, the thought of heroes stomping  mail day and night is accepted as normal. To address the aspirations of players who prefer their characters to walk about like two-legged tanks, we should make two points regarding the use of plate mail. In answer to the first question players have: Yes, plate mail is period. In answer to the second question: No, most players really won’t want their characters to use it.

During this period, full plate is used as early as the beginning of the 15th century – it is typically employed by knights on horseback traveling to war. For a creature of the night, any pretense of subtlety is lost once he begins wandering the woods of Transylvania late at night girded to the teeth for an all-out assault on a neighboring domain.

For a Cainite in plate mail, Dexterity and Perception Dice Pools are reduced by 3. Movement is drastically hindered. Even Cainites using Celerity are slowed considerably. Stealth is impossible without the use of Disciplines; wearing plate mail increases the difficulty of Stealth rolls by 2. Chainmail offers three extra dice for soaking damage with considerably less encumbrance; plate mail provides five dice, but is not worth the trouble.

The sight of a warrior in full-plate riding into a domain can be taken as a hostile gesture, and may result in an immediate counterattack. If you’ve played Dark Ages, you’ve probably already conditioned your players to not bring polearms into taverns or draw ballistae through small towns. The same guideline applies here.

Note that my opinion on Plate mail is shared by this little excerpt from Son of the Dragon (and yes, by the second book firearms are accessible, but trust me when I say they all suck and are worse than bow and arrows).

I thought that was part of the contagion flaw was that anyone you fed on got sick?  If that's the case then wouldn't they definitely catch the disease from actually ingesting your blood?

Yep. It's why the flaw is so bad, you can't have human ghouls. Well, you can have them, but they'll never last long enough to become powerful or useful, and they'll be plagued by sickness the entire time until they die.

Animals are fine though.

Erm for Str:

Throwing heavy things?
Moving heavy objects ie. To drop on people?
Jumping further?

You know, there are more things than combat in the world XD

All of those work.

Was trying to work out why the colours hadn't copied lol

You have to insert things like [ color=purple] [ /color], copy-pasting only gets you text. If you quote a post then you get the things with everything altered for you.
