Running a farm for the rest of the week
« on: March 22, 2016, 08:29:26 pm »

So due to some last minute family stuff my friends have, they have to fly down to Vancouver. So we are looking after their farm, so awesome.

Feeding and care of the lambs twice a day, feeding and care of the chickens and turkeys twice a day as well as their coop. Then just looking after the dog and cat and crops etc. which is easy.

I've had to do that for my folks before. Chickens and goats. Especially this one little goat whose mom basically tried to kill him when he was little, had to be bottle-fed.

Basic food stuffs like standard veg, lattices rhubarb etc. Just normal stuff you'd see in a farmers market and wheat in a small area. A lot of it is still seedlings sized as it is still occasionally frosty here.

One chicken got out of their fenced area, got spooked and got over the top. Took a while to corral that lil sucker... They are fun though as they are second and third generation now so are used to humans.

Chickens are the best. They're like tiny R2-D2's made out of rubber and pipe-cleaners.

I've often found that roosters are the little assholes. I could hang out with most of the chickens I've met all day, though, with few exceptions.

Our local dairy farm has chickens, and there's always some loose. The six-year-old likes to chase them. And they have turkeys, but apparently they had to separate them... from what we can tell, the dominant male was picking on another male. The one hen still likes the big full-feathered guy, buuuut she's in with the two "beta" males for some reason?

Anyway. Delicious milk, beef, cheese, & eggs, from a tiny unstaffed store. They have a lockbox for larger bills & checks, and an open cashbox for change. Love my neighborhood. <3

That may be the strangest description of any animal I've ever seen.
