why are the lasombra associated with the ocean, anyway? a bunch of the lasombra-specific merits/flaws from reference desk are about the sea.

I was wondering about that too. I can send you a PDF of "Blood-Dimmed Tides" - it covers sea creatures in the story. Mariners (Gangrel specifically adapted and settled in the ocean) and Lasombra are featured heavily for the vampires. Apparently ALL lasombra (without exception) at one point feel the call of the sea. Elders are very lenient regarding this (they went through it themselves). It's speculated that it's because the Ocean reminds the Lasombra of the Abyss, or that the Ocean has a mystical connection to the Abyss - the deeper you go, the farther away from civilization, the closer you get. So the Ocean is a draw for the Lasombra because they commune with the place from where they draw their greatest powers.

You should have had Adam take some of those.  (since he lives so close to the ocean and all.)

I didn't know the reference desk existed when I was making Adam. I got all his merits/flaws from the Subnet (and not this subnet either, the subnet before it was updated).

Could you clear this up for me?  The setting info seems to suggest that it's 1198.

Is that actually what year it is?

(I get that the chronicle spans 800 years.  And that most of the anachronisms I'm mentioning are picky picky.  And not your fault because you're just copying what the book designer wrote.)

How long did you say we'd been vampires?  I know we're neonates, but does that mean like, just turned a week ago, or like, we've been vampires for more than 5 years?

Yep. I mean, you have experience (because I don't want to teach you the basics of vampirism in-game) but you should also all be newborns by vampiric societal standards, so i'm ruling that no one has spent more than 20 years as a vampire.

We just all studied REALLY HARD over those 10-20 years, and there was a lot of farming slimes and boars for base xp before leeching xp on high level strike runs with our sires.

(Yes I am geeking it up FTW)

Pfft, you're estranged brothers (which toats makes sense because unless Seth made a copy of your character his char would never keep in touch with you given everything).

Backstory is the longest part Aman, everyone knows that XD

It's why you left it dead last.

My wife says I'm not allowed to quit. XD

My wife also says "an 11th century nobleman can kick your ass.  Sophistication isn't associated with aristocracy at this point.  Especially in Eastern Europe."

Anyway, For Lucien:

Why does he know so much about finance? How did he get into flesh crafting, was he always interested in medicine? Or is it more like sculpting? One the one hand you've got this "mad scientist/tortured artist" vibe, but on the other hand, his path is about survivalism, hunting In civilization.  Kinda like a serial killer? XD did he always have those tendencies?
You've also got a cool dichotomy between being skillwd in brawling and combat-like stuff, but also having crafty skills.  And why did he want to be super sexy-looking? XD
How do you reconcile common sense with having a short fuse?

Crafty skills is for bodycrafting (Vicissitude rolls). Who doesn't want to be super-sexy looking?

Common sense is for me to save his ass if he does something incredibly stupid ("I have my character insult the antediluvian!"), short fuse means he gives in easily to the Beast.

Path is, well, that's D's thing XD

My wife says I'm not allowed to quit. XD

I wasn't being argumentative about his stuff, I was trying to help him be unwriter's blocked.

Like, thinking about what sort of person has a short fuse, but common sense.

storywise, you shouldn't think about your merits/flaws in their mechanical terms. XD

Hey, is linguistics necessary? How "real world" are we being with the setting, as in are we assuming we can all speak each other's language?

The book explicitly states that there are, just, so many languages to be used.

Specifically: Romanian, Slavonic, Hungarian, Baltic, German, French, Italian, Latin, Kurdish, Armenian, Persion - among others - and even these are umbrella terms, where if you're speaking to someone from a different region or who's using a different dialect than you then you'll have to make a roll to properly understand/reply to them.

If we're trying to make it easier (which I am, because i don't like keeping track of languages), then Slavonic and Romanian default to each other (turning to a language variant popular among the Tzimisce known as "Vlach"), French, Italian and Spanish all default to each other (so if you know one, you can roll to reply with all the others), Kurdish, Armenian and Persion default to Arabic; Hungarian, Baltic and Slavonic remain as is.

Should probably get Vlach and Hungarian, they're the most common ones here. Though if you come from Constantinople then Greek is also extremely important.

Going to have to be Greek and Vlach. can't afford to move more points into linguistics without flipping out and messing my char up again :)

Picked three languages for now, but they might change as I have posted a sort of 'Is this correct' list in the languages thread as I am still trying to wrap my head around the dark ages geography of transylvania and then work out what languages will actually be useful.

Do certain clans have a language preference? Eg. The clan with the most power in the Holy empire would prob be snobish and speak mostly German etc.

Do I need any more backstory than I already have? We already have why I'm here but I'm honestly not sure why I'm joining the Coterie. I assumed my sire would suggest me to whoever's forming it since we're still in the same city but I forgot to suggest it to you.
