"While there are many similarities, I find it a bit far fetched to think that someone sacrificed to the Cathedral of Flesh would be out here harassing us." Anton states.

"Oh, did I mention that 'good behavior' in this case means performance?" Steeple continues, "They let you out to perform a task. Do well and you don't have to go back in."

"You should ask Lucian," Steeple concludes mater-of-factly, "He knows all about it."

Lucien, casually walking back from his business with the workers walks up to Anton. "How did the hunt go?" He asks.

"Well." Anton states. "There were more wolves then expected, but we handled them with efficinecy."

"However, some things came to light about your realtionship with the knight. How did you encounter him?" He begins asking.

"Good. I'd hate to see them bothering the workers. I dont suppose you brought any live ones back did you? I would have liked to study it." He replied in a friendly manner.

"Knight? What knight? Ennius?"

Anton shakes his head.
"We killed them all, Lucien."

"And yes, your knight Ennius. I repeat, how did you encounter him?"

"Damn shame." He shakes his head sadly.

"He singlehandely assaulted my sires haven." He replied honestly. "Killed most of the guards and servants, hell he even killed the Shlachta guards." he added

"Why do you ask?"

"So answer the question, Lucien."

"So a monstrously powerful being attacked you, and yet you and your sire never bothered to figure out who sent him? And why? You both just gave up on figuring it out?" Anton asks, incredulous.

"Lucien, do you truly think that this fable would be believed?"

"T'is the truth." He simply replied. "I tried. But the thing about fortitude is that it makes effective torture impossible, and it was not my place to ask around in kindred society about him, but my sire Sandors. And no dear Anton, i dont know if he had any success, i didnt care enough to ask."

"You did not care to ask..." Anton mutters, before sighing.

"Lucien, I am not asking for you to give away your knight. I am asking to know who we are dealing with. We need to know this. This is far more important then whatever shame the true tale involves."

Ennius looks strangely at Anton.

"It is true, I remember nothing from my time before my assault on Sandor's vovoidate. I wouldn't call myself monstrously powerful either, you have seen me in action yourself. I am just rather resilient."

Kiril, who has been observing the tedious back-and-forth with growing impatience, finally interrupts.
"Could we stop wasting time on this? Anton asks Lucien what's going on, luci says he doesn't know, Anton says 'you can't possibly be this ignorant and willfully obtuse,' Lucien asserts that yes he can.
The important thing is determining what, if anything, needs to be done."

"Well for now we can proceed with construction I gather, we must be more vigilant of this new enemy though and who she may serve."

With that Heldric heads off to find a more secluded area in which to feed Mr Whitey, it wouldn't be good for the human workers to see anything.

Myca left soon after his visit, having talked at length with Kiril and Lucien about this or that subject. Once he was gone work began again. With his money the cainites were able to purchase more supplies and replace any lost tools, as well as more men to work. Morale returned to the camp as well as the towns as Lucien lowered the taxes of not just the town but the pass as well, and attacks from the wolves had stopped. Though it had taken two months of pulling teeth just to finish the placements of the floor it took far less to finish the rest of the floor.

The cotterie often spent their nights disturbed by Steeple's muttering, as the vampire often, strangely enough, began muttering to Prince Maurice in his sleep. Steeple would also often spend nights in the graveyard, intending to catch the fiends who would disturb the graves of the dead, only to return with no results (though the grave robberies had stopped).

The apprentice mason was found to be horribly, viciously mauled (perhaps the final victim of the ghoul wolves?) by the edge of the town, with him was one of the slave girls. Both had clearly been partially eaten and many vital organs were missing, most likely the fault of scavengers.

Kiril found the money he had collected for Sherazhina in the communal haven on waking. They have no spoken much since, but Kiril knows at least what choice she has made.

Construction proceeds, and work looks good. Soon it will be time to inform their sires and their patron of the group's success.

Then one night, the cotterie wakes to find the translation key missing, gone from their haven...

Heldric, eternally vigilant as he is, and Mr. Whitey both noticed nothing out of the usual that night. How strange...

Steeple immediately uses his Wooden Tongues, to ask the room itself where the Key is or who took it.

Kiril considers what might have happened to the key. It's highly unlikely a stranger came into the haven unnoticed while they slept. He investigates the keys holding place for potential clues.

Steeple immediately uses his Wooden Tongues, to ask the room itself where the Key is or who took it.

Steeple winces again in visible pain. He can tell the others nothing but that he was wracked by the screams of the tortured spirits of this room.

Nothing here would speak to him.

Daniel's ghouls hadn't noticed anyone entering or leaving the haven.

Kiril finds no traces, odd scents or odours, or anything particularly special hiding around wherever Lucien had kept the translation key.

Heldric has Mr. Whitey and Andreas search the sanctuary with their senses to try and detect anything different like scent etc. then has them accompany him out, allowing others to come if they so wished. He then systematically spends a couple of hours calling dogs, birds and other animals to try and have them search for scents that were not present before the last day, or new humanoids in the vicinity.

Once those wispy washy commands are done (and fail since they are too wispy washy) he has dogs trace scents away from the mutilated corpses.

"GEESH!!" Steeple pouts, "I've never met more uncooperative jim jams!"

Steeple then takes out his pet rock - "At least you've never screamed in my ears," he says to it. Pondering what to try next ...

Kiril considers the situation.
Lucien had possession of the key; the simplest solution is that either he or Ennius still has it.
But is he *that* stupid? He'd have to know he's the obvious suspect.
It's highly unlikely that a stranger could sneak into our haven utterly undetected.
It's also quite possible that Heldric or Steeple has it, considering their showy but fruitless efforts at investigation.

How the Fark did this happem.. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN. Lucien thought to himself, really pissed off that something that valuable got stolen from right under his nose.

"Ennius, you got any clues on how the Fark it got stolen?" He asked his servant, as he wanders the scene of the crime with Heightened senses (smelling.)

Kiril speaks privately with Carinus.  "It's clear the thief is one of my supposed allies.  I fail to see the point in wasting time trying to determining which.
The thief no doubt had insight into each of our respective abilities of detection, along with weeks to proof his plan against investigation.

From now on I want you and Sherazhina to be on your guard around all of them.
 Their servants, too, obviously.
None of them can be trusted."

He then departs to handle whatever necessary arrangements need to be made for their sire's arrival.

Carinus raises an eyebrow.

"The only Nosferatu we've met who could be so skilled is the master Zelios. Do you truly believe he would stoop so low as to steal the key? He's the one who counseled you not to give it to him as payment."

"Nosferatu was simply one option I mentioned, it would be more suspicious if I withheld information when it was needed. It is highly doubtful that it was zelios though as if he wanted it he could have accepted it at any time or simply taken it by force I have no doubt. I lean more toward my other two point, betrayal or some form of mind control. Does Mica have that ability?"

Kiril sighs and adds a comment.

"Or the key is still in the room, and we cannot perceive it; or it was stolen days or weeks before, and we only thought it was in the room.

My point remains- we are not likely to uncover the culprit."

Anton looks around, annoyed.
"Whoever stole it betrayed our trust, which is to be expected from us cursed. It is not the value of the translation that matters, for it is worthless, but the value of the gold. I expect the one who did it to confess immediately. Otherwise I will be required to elucidate the information through means I would rather not use."

"Too bad no one is dead," Steeple laments, "then I could have spoken to them directly and asked who did it..."

Then, thinking a moment, Steeple replies to Anton's previous statement - "Let's not let this divide us against ourselves, for that would only give us right into the hands of those already proven against us."

"Remember that someone was trying to stop us. Then Myca (what's his name) conveniently showed up to 'save' us (for the price of being in his debt). The wolf girl is still out there looking for one of us. We never found out who or why the graves had been robbed. Now this..."

"Perhaps this is the very purpose of taking it, beyond its gold value - to further drive us apart infighting."

"I say it isn't worth it."

"We don't really need its gold value (which we would be fools to try to get out of it - as pointed out by the Viking dude)."

"And we have copies of the key, so we lose nothing not having the original (other than some other fiend now has that knowledge too)."

"Or the key is still hidden in here with us; In which case, we either just search for it, or simply make sure that it doesn't leave."

Anton shakes his head.
"Myca has been gone for a long time, and already holds us hostage with that ring. And the wolf girl seemed only interested in the knight Lucien holds in retinue. The perpetrator is likely one of us, and, due to our curse, it is very easy to discover the truth."

"We shall convene in an hour, after which Kiril's servant and Sylvian can conduct an investigation of our character. During this, the thief may return the gold to Lucien's hidden location without being exposed. After said hour, however, the thief will be exposed, and we will know who can not be trusted, if any of us."

"Fine," Steeple replies, "But in the event that the key doesn't show, we should enquire of our servants."

"As they are the only ones that could have taken it out into the daylight while we slept - they would have been privy to any schemes of their master (or seen something perhaps). Let's just ask them if they were commanded to remove it (and by who)."

"And if none of them; then it had to have been an outside job."
