A few hours later, the crew of the Desperado found itself making its way down South Furnace Street in two rented SUVs. It was dark out, but there was plenty of light over the road.
On one side was a tall sturdy chainlink fence that bordered the property of a huge forge. The massive open steel building was about 150 feet from the fence, at least a hundred feet high, and ran parallel to the road for nearly 1,000 feet. It was currently running production - long sections of orange glowing rods could be seen as they were worked through loud machinery.
On the other side of the road were low income row houses. While not exactly falling apart, it was clear that their residents cared nothing for them.
At the top of South Furnace Street, the houses were lit from the lights over the road, as well as lights on inside, though no one was out or about anywhere near any of them. Down at the far end of the street, where the team was now driving, the overhead lights appeared to be off. The street was dark, but lights on the houses illuminated enough of the area, that a large mass of people could be seen milling about down there.
A few cars drove ahead of the team, pulling up one after the other at the curb near the crowd. No doubt making buys, before swinging around and leaving back up the street the way they had come...
