As UsdiYona was getting ready to head to the living room, Beat's and Robor abruptly appeared in the hall outside the kitchen, having returned from their mission into the shadow.

Their pantlegs were exceedingly muddy for some unknown reason.

"That dumb mutt wouldn't leave us alone otherwise." Robor says.

Clarifying, Robor adds,
"That dumb mutt that kept chasing us, the one who stole my sword forever ago? He caught us in some magic Ward and wanted a deal.
I go and collect the fragments of his treasure that we broke, and in exchange he serves us for 101 years."

"(Is 101 a special number?)"

"Also, the vampires are in some kind of fortress. The spirit world just keeps getting weirder."

"Emend, do you think you'd be able to kill them using sympathetic magic from the spirit world or will we have to leave off finishing the vampires for now?

We have some news of our own, someone contacted me using an intermediary from Blume and Blumenthal about the Heart of Flies, they know what it is and they want to buy it."

“Their company, at least, I don’t know if the lawyers themselves are involved.”

"Doubtful," Emend replies to Saint. "We'll just have to wait a bit to see if they strike first, and this time we'll have the home advantage."

He then considers calling the the number from his own cell phone, before deciding against it. He could get Saint to call him back, but it'd be a bit too early to give him a decision. With those thoughts, he decides to go onto a computer and see if he can find anything on Robert Swane.

"In the meantime, I'll see what I can dig up on the potential buyer of the heart."

With a little time on the computer, Emend was able to access Robert Swane's call logs. They appeared to be pretty mundane, being daily interactions between business clients, the office of Blume and Blumenthal, and his wife.

Nothing stood out as unusual, even when Emend spent time rooting out the clients themselves.
