BZ’s Penguins of Madagascar Write-Ups

Here's my favorite bunch of karate-chopping covert characters  ;D

I'm sure heads will spin if these guys ever make an appearance in your BHB game, but somehow their stats got uploaded mysteriously onto our forums, so here you go  ;)

The Penguins
of Madagascar



Penguins of Madagascar Mythos Madness
Lions and tigers and tentacles, oh my!  Something stirs in New York’s Central Park; its smoky tendrils of evil even now seeping into the adjacent Zoo – home to those covert karate-chopping penguins; Skipper, Private, Kowalski, and Rico.  Can they fight back the Mythos and save the world?

Notes
Skipper is the leader of the penguins, forming tactics and giving orders.  He is usually cool and calculating, but has an irrational fear of needles and enjoys a fish in his coffee.  He also has the heart of an action hero and the swagger to match.  He's a natural leader with a single-minded focus on results.  Skipper approaches every situation with intensity, which may explain his overly active imagination.  To Skipper, every innocent coincidence appears to be a nefarious conspiracy.

Notes
Private is the shortest and youngest of the penguins.  Though rookie of the group, he is the most observant and down to earth.  He is also nearly on par with Skipper in hand-to-hand, but somewhat accident prone.  Private is also little too naïve for his own good and has a soft spot for those in need that occasionally gets him into trouble.

Cracking Codes: Private has a knack for cracking codes and other ciphers – how long is up to the GM as a Plot Device.

Notes
Kowalski is the tallest and smartest of the penguins, but tends to over analyze situations – even so, he usually acts as the group’s strategist and is an extraordinary gadgeteer.  When Skipper needs analysis or an immediate invention, Kowalski is there with his marker, notebook, and slightly skewed scientific method.  Kowalski's authoritative attitude covers up the fact that he usually doesn't have a clue about what's happening.

Mad Sciences: Mad Sciences are what Kowalski uses in place of normal scientific knowledge, to allow him to concoct all sorts of strange and unique inventions and Plot Devices as needed by the GM.

Notes
Rico is the ‘world-class psychopath’ of the group, readily identifiable by his mohawk and scar across his beak.  He is the team’s weapons and explosives expert, and makes some pretty mean sushi on the side.  For some reason Rico doesn't talk, communicating mostly through grunts and squeals.  When the need for better clarity arises, he uses a ‘Speak & Spell’ to do the talking for him.

Regurgitation: Rico has the uncanny ability to swallow useful items and regurgitate them up when needed.  His capacity to store items within seems to dramatically exceed the limits of his exterior; virtually any useful item, weapon, or Plot Device can be hacked up on command, as needed by the GM. Commonly stored items include rope, knives, mechanics tools, a chainsaw, flamethrower, round iron bombs, dynamite, and timers.

The best part is taking these write-ups, retro-fitting them to apply to humans, and having this team of misfits around to terrify your PCs.  ;D

Reminds me of the write-up I saw someone do a couple of years ago of the A-Team for the Serenity RPG. Now there's another bunch of crazies to unleash in the BHB universe!

Hmm, maybe once I feel comfortable enough in the system I just might go for it...

I have modified all of the above write-ups (and included two more below) to reflect the stats I am using with my Penguins of Madagascar Mythos Madness Adventure. 

Note that some Edges are Grayed-Out. 

These Edges are still possessed by the character in question, but are those Edges that are static in nature and don't require any conscious acknowledgement on the part of the player to use during game play.

Notes
An otter originally from Northern California, Marlene is still adjusting to her new life in Manhattan.  She frequently finds herself tangled up in the fracas between the Penguins and the Lemurs, siding with whoever seems to make the most sense at the time.  Marlene's playful spirit often clashes with Skipper's organization and discipline, but that doesn't hurt their friendship.

Walk-In-Ability: Marlene has the uncanny ability to nonchalantly walk into just about any secured area; somehow bypassing all defenses and inexplicably just showing up on scene, without any explanation of how she got there, except perhaps “Oh, I let myself in”.  Note however that Walk-In-Ability is a one-way plot device; only allowing Marlene to walk into an area.  Getting out again may be another matter entirely…

Maurice is King Julien's long-suffering sergeant-at-arms who’s sick of pretending that he's happy to cater to King Julien's crazy whims.  He does his best to keep King Julien from getting totally out of control.  Maurice may be surrounding by completely crazy creatures, but he is a realist.  He knows the score…too bad no one is asking him for it!

Natural Feng-Shui: Maurice has the ability to use Feng-Shui powers without the need for a Lopan or Gatestone.
