http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20151123-how-dark-is-your-personality

Neato quiz about how evil you are. I am 'Moderately Nefarious', apparently, with a lot of machiavellianism and slightly lower than average narcissism and psychopathy. Takes three minutes-- interested to see the results (even if they are bound to be bogus) ;D

Our results are similar, then.

Almost exact same.

I am decidedly dastardly, with sky-high scores in each of them, though psychopathy has a slight lead over the other Narcisism and machievelianism, which are tied for second place. Both almost right at the far end though.

I take it you agree with the results (as none of us are surprised, lol)?

shocked narcisiscm isnt higher

Maybe it's just that standard tests can't possibly capture his level of self-absorbedness. XD

Mine: A lot of Machiavellianism, Absolutely Zero narcissism, All the psychopathy.

I'm infrequently vile, apparently. Probably because the other two were at the far left, because my Machiavellianism was ALL the way to the red dot of evil.

Ordered parts for a new computer saturday. Got all excited when they arrive today.

Lol nope. Power supply isn't here yet. Now all I get to do is look longingly at my pile of parts waiting to be assembled until it arrives.

I got moderately nefarious on that evil test.

Really high on the Machiavellianism.

Medium on the other two, though I sort of thought I answered low on the narcissism since I don’t really see myself as a special snowflake and avoid being the center of attention in crowd situations, but apparently taking compliments makes you a raging egomaniac according to this test.

Ha!

My self-built machine is on its last legs. I ordered a laptop, and ALL the peripherals arrived first, also in a big box. XD

What's your build look like?

Then I have a 120GB SSD drive, and another 500 + 640 (or something) normal drives for storage. It's ITX, so it's a pretty small case, meaning if I ever fly I can probably take it with me, which is nice.

Niiice. Mine was the only standard-size case-with-handle I could find. It's held up really well, all things considered. (Carrying it to work & falling down a (short) flight of stairs while holding it)

Hope yours does, too!

The narcisist test is messed up lol. Its all about feeling validity from other people. The whole point of being narcisictic is thinking youre the best even if everyone tells u you suck, ha ha (the MC from Varcella would be a perfect example, ha ha).

It's a nice little diversion, but the "test" itself is about as accurate as a CYS WC Story. . .

:-\

My first psychiatrist brushed me off when I asked about MAYBE being bipolar. They aren't always right. Also, even the "good" one I saw was SUPER condescending, to the point of almost seeming smug. But he did let me out of the hospital, so I guess he was right about things. ;)

My current prescriber is a clinical specialist, & is a super cool AND super helpful guy. Ditto my therapist.

If you wanna find a good test, this one will give you a rough estimate of where you are on the political scale.

https://www.politicalcompass.org/test

Idk if I take it too seriously myself, but the results should be interesting. It labeled me as a libertarian left.

If you're a level headed person I'd be more inclined to use doctors as second opinions rather than the opinion you go with. I watched my sister bring my niece to several different specialists, because she was a bit behind with talking and she seemed to just flat out ignore you at times.

All of them came back "her eardrums aren't moving, so you need to do X", where X was some mildly invasive procedure that could have caused more damage if they were wrong. All of the family (myself included), said it was obvious she was just ignoring people at times, and to not take the doctors too seriously. Luckily, she listen to us in the end.

A year later, my niece is talking up a storm and is perfectly fine hearing wise. Whats funny is the last time she went to the doctors they were like "but her eardrums still aren't moving" (even more hilarious is the time before that, I went with my sister, and they said her eardrums were in fact moving). Thankfully, this time my sister just sort of left and decided to not look into it any more.

The intelligence of doctors is highly overrated imo.

Well this is a 5 year on going injury. (I made a post about it on cys lounge "Bad news for me" or something another.) Just got back home to find out we have gotten 1.5 inches of snow since I went in. I seriously hate Ohio most days.

Someone bring him back! I need somebody to complain about Ohio with!

Glad your niece is doing well, Killa. ^_^

True dat.

Honestly, if you've got people to spell you, those first few miserable weeks/months of parenthood aren't THAT bad. Or so I've been told. They certainly go fast... at least in retrospect. You blink, and the kid's five, and turning into an Actual Person...

I went into it voluntarily, of course, but alloparenting is pretty much the best, IMHO. I know you're expecting your mom to be pissed off, Playa, and I'm not saying she won't be... but she's gonna love that kid, man. You know she is.

In that vein, https://www.isidewith.com/ tells you which politicians supposedly share your views. I guess it's supposed to help people who don't know who to vote for. I took it a while ago, but I remember got Bernie Sanders as my number 1, followed by Hillary. For what specifically I can't really recall.

Huh. Bit of an odd one... is anyone actually campaigning to remove "mentions of God" from currency, etc? Because if not, that seems like it might be a priming question...

Yeah, there were a lot of questions in the test about matters it didn't seem like anyone is really talking/caring about ("should employers be able to deny customers based on religious beliefs", "should a photo ID be required to vote"), but I guess the inclusion of such questions makes the test all the more thorough and accurate.

Hopefully just one, not plural haha. And nah, my mom would love the little bastard, especially considering he's my bastard.

She'll probably be pretty pissed off at me, and I might have to dodge a few frying pans, but that'll probably be the worst of it.

I didn't 'assume'... because we all know what happens when you assume, right?? Ass, u, me, haha very funny?

I told Playa what Playa already knew. You might say I trust beyond reason... to get results beyond hope.

That's a Bujold reference, for you plebes who haven't yet heard that she's at the top of the geek pantheon, these days. If you're not counting down the days until Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen.... *doublechecks* OH SHIT THERE'S AN eARC!  :o

Glasses?

NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

In other news, my power supply finally got in. Carefully managed to install it into my tiny computer. At first I tried to be all professional and make it neat inside, and by the end I was just like "for the love of god please just fit". Luckily it all fit and after some minor bumps everything works fine. Spent the next following hours playing witcher 3. It's a great game so far.

I've been considering switching to PC but so far I have no idea how to actually make one and i'm never sure what's actually up-to-date or what parts to get for anything :(

I'd just buy a premade one but whenever I look around to see what premade ones are good, all I find are people talking about how shitty/major rip-offs all the premade computers are.

Depends. Premades come with a bunch of extra crap, but the markup on computers is pretty damn low, so if you don't really care about customizing it's not a big difference. Though I noticed some that had lopsided builds. Like a weak power supply for a supposed "gaming" rig, and many don't even tell you the motherboard model.

What are you wanting one for?

Main reason I want to switch to PC is because of the all the high-end titles available there that aren't available for apple computers, primarily Fallout 4 and Witcher 3.

Never really cared too much about graphics, i'm good with running stuff at default/medium settings.

I'd recommend Newegg. Just take a look at their gaming computers, pick something that looks good & fits your budget, cross-check against Killa's know-how, and you'll be good to go. *browses a bit* Hmmm... maybe one of these?

Regardless, don't overthink it. Gamers are just a bunch of geeks who like building their own systems. Which, don't get me wrong, can be fun... but I don't recommend it to a novice who doesn't have a RL mentor. You actually CAN fark up your very expensive components by doing the wrong thing... and cable management is a whole separate minigame, as Killa can attest to. ;D

It's not very fallout.  Lots more skyrim.

I'm still enjoying it, but I hate the subpar dialogue system.

In new Vegas etc, there were lots of options to use various skills in conversation, like convincing a scientist to trust you by using your science skill.  All of that is gone,  only charisma matters. And even then it's a percentage chance. (As in, if you failed the check, reload & try again)

There's only 4 possible options for every convo:  Yes/bland good-guy; No/Aggressive; Ask a question; Sarcastic (which is sometimes mean, sometimes joking, but could also be yes or no, it doesn't tell you.)

And why would they make a companion who hates lockpicking and hacking?! How the fffff are you supposed to play the game without being able to ffffffffckubg open doors?

Worse yet, the ending scenes barely differ. Somehow, W3 is even less linear than the new Fallout, which is surprising haha.

Fallout wins on stuff to do total, exploring; the like, plus it's an easy-to-play FPS game with some cool sci-fish things, but it's so lackluster as to what I expected. I think I liked the first Fallout's overall better, even, since it was much more climactic and interesting by the end. Not too mention [some] sidequests actually mattered in the ending graphic. Dialogue is odd because you really don't know what your char will say (choices show vague fragments of what you want to say). Still a really fun game though. Very easy despite on Very Hard settings, less because of the early power armor (which I didn't really bother using until the finale) more because equipment will most of the time directly alter your attributes, so even with a dump-stat of Charisma you can pass nearly all checks (with reloading once or twice).
Not gonna Chris/whine about it, but it definitely could have been better. Need to play New Vegas haha.

Which companion was that? Lol. Thankfully some of the companions are actually fun to have around, though the NPCs (as expected) pale to something like Witcher.

I thought he was talking about Strong who hates it whenever you hack or pick locks.

Piper just hates when you pick locks that belong to citizens, she's fine with it when you're at some raider/super mutant/whatever hideout.

No, strong.  He dislikes lockpicking, hacking, wearing power armor, and succeeding at speech checks.  So, basically "playing the game as intended."
He likes cannibalism and murdering non-hostile NPCs.

Although, piper annoys me too. I know functionally she & nick are supposed to be identical, but somehow he's much less irritating.

Preston: took *five* tries at point blank range to kill a crippled feral.
Keeps giving me radiant quests.  With time limits.

Edit: end replied before I did but I don't feel like rewriting.
